The layers beneath the roof
Adding a bedroom or insulation may affect panels, ducts and previously inaccessible layers. Describe what will be opened and what stays intact. The external covering and panels visible from the attic are separate materials: compare report references with each planned intervention.

Describe attic access and the intended conversion without opening the walls. State whether you have a survey. Distinguish external roof covering, under-roof elements and interior finishes: their removal and replacement are different items.

Have the documents checked against materials affected by the work. Location or a photograph cannot confirm asbestos. The method and required competence depend on the material and its condition and must be established before work.

Does replacing the roof address all asbestos in the attic?
Not necessarily: the external covering, underroof and interior finishes are separate elements. Check whether the report covers materials affected by planned insulation or conversion work. In Flanders, the standard asbestattest uses a non-destructive inspection, so concealed elements may need additional investigation before work.
Does a small attic hatch affect site preparation?
Yes. Access matters for equipment and waste removal. Give already-known hatch dimensions, stair details, available height and the rooms that must be crossed. Do not remove a panel to take measurements; simply flag any missing information.
My roof is recent. Do the attic panels still need checking?
The roof covering’s age does not establish the age of every retained layer. Compare invoices and reports with the underroof and finishes your conversion will affect. Describe what remained during the previous renovation; an expert determines whether the information is sufficient.
